Rubislaw Drinks Cabinet
A classic styled and restrained exterior meets a bold and glamorous interior with this drinks cabinet project for a client in Aberdeen.
Designed in collaboration with interior designer Adele Williams, the brief was to create an elegant and fully bespoke storage solution for bottles of wine, spirits and a wide selection of glassware — one that would complement the classical architecture of their granite home in Rubislaw Den.
A six-door design, breakfronted in both depth and height, gives an interesting aspect to the cabinet and the doors are fitted with heavy duty 'slide and hide' mechanisms to allow them to be hidden away to handle depth when the cabinet is opened up.
The handles are made with natural horn and solid bronze and the doors are hand-painted in a deep charcoal and the eight dovetailed interior drawers are made with rich-grained Aberdeenshire Elm.
Inside, the double tiered drinks shelves ensure bottles are displayed clearly and there are glass racks fitted for champagne flutes. The bar tops are made with solid natural marron granite, there are two high-quality Liebherr drinks coolers (with bronze mesh ventilation grilles) and clever, flush-fitted LED lights operated by door sensors.
Installed with great care by the same craftsmen who built it, this was the first version of the Lethenty style drinks cabinet, and we've made several variations on this design for other clients since.

Six-door design — with 'slide and hide' mechanisms
