A Team of Specialist Cabinetmakers
ATTENTION TO DETAIL
SINCE 2004
It’s taken us twenty years to reach this point and we really feel that we are now operating at the top of our game. Our journey may have had its ups and downs but it’s shaped who we are.
We were first established as a business following the closure of the furniture workshops at Lethenty Mill which operated from 1980 to 2003. Workshop Manager Graeme Winram founded Lethenty Cabinetmakers with three of his colleagues at the beginning of 2004 and the new business quickly developed a reputation as the premier cabinetmaking workshop in North East Scotland. From the very beginning, we offered a wide range of bespoke furniture, kitchens and studies. Over the next decade the good word spread and the business grew.
In April 2016, a large fire destroyed much of Lethenty Mill, including our workshops and showroom. This was a significant blow for our busy small business and for our clients.
There was no time for despair though; we immediately set to work recovering what we could from Lethenty Mill and beginning the search for a new workshop. It was humbling for us to receive so many offers of help and suggestions for new premises.
After much consideration, we made the move to Cairntradlin, close to Blackburn, Aberdeenshire, where we still operate to this day. Our building was once part of a busy strawberry farm and it took us several months of concentrated work to convert it into a modern furniture makers’ workshop. We now have a bright spacious and efficient workshop and we’re very proud of our new home.

DESIGNED AND MADE IN ABERDEENSHIRE
Every project at the Lethenty workshop begins with conversation and ideas. We have decades of collective experience across the team, but we're good listeners and we're always looking to build on customers' initial vision with our suggestions and options for consideration.
At the heart of it, we understand that commissioning a piece of furniture, woodwork or a bespoke kitchen is a personal thing, and often a major life decision. We don't take that lightly, and our approach always prioritises respect for the customer, their property and their role in the process.

Meet The Team

Graeme has worked with Lethenty Cabinetmakers for more than thirty years. Since 2004 he has guided Lethenty Cabinetmakers to become the premier producer of bespoke kitchens and furniture in the North East of Scotland. He has a talent for carefully considered design and expects high standards from his team – both in terms of workmanship and in terms of customer service.
Like most business owners, he has to wear many hats. Life for Graeme is a constant juggling act between design work, meeting clients, running the workshop and marketing. Despite being mostly office bound, Graeme still makes time to get his hands dirty sometimes. He’s never happier than when sorting through a big stack of Aberdeenshire Elm boards, looking for the perfect piece to complete one of our furniture projects.
He lives with his wife and two sons at the foot of Bennachie.

Phil has been with Lethenty Cabinetmakers since 2000. He has developed into a highly skilled cabinetmaker. He is a master of the vacuum press and creates beautiful burr Elm curved panels made with great precision.
When not at Lethenty, he can be found restoring his fleet of three wheeled classic vehicles to the same exacting standards.
Whenever we have a particularly demanding project in the workshop, it usually ends up on Phil's bench. The secret ingredient behind Phil's talent is his ability to maintain a consistent focus.

Sandy is our main kitchen production man. He’s been building and installing Lethenty kitchens since 1999 and he’s now absolutely on the top of his game. Constructing a large kitchen is a complex business. For the work to progress smoothly and efficiently takes meticulous planning and focus. Not many people have Sandy’s talent to organise the flow of work efficiently. He likes a neat cutting list and he always knows where everything is.
When he's not keeping everything neat and shipshape at Lethenty Cabinetmakers, he's the Vice Chairman of his local football club. He is married with two daughters.

Steve Gordon is our wood finishing maestro. He has been here at Lethenty since 2005.
Every kitchen, study, table and chair we make is carefully and skilfully finished by Steve. Most furniture makers promote their work by emphasising the elegant design or the beautiful grain patterns of the timber but not many people make mention of the finish. That final microscopic layer of varnish, oil, paint, lacquer or wax is so important in how we perceive a piece of furniture – it’s what we smell, touch and see first of all.
Steve is a very conscientious and patient worker. He is married with three children.

Trainee Cabinetmaker Sam is the newest member of the workshop team. Under the expert guidance of Phil and Sandy, he’s learning quickly. Sam has good attention to detail and his neat and meticulous nature is well suited for furniture making.
When he’s not carefully assembling cabinets, Sam cares for Harry, his five year old Clydesdale horse. Harry is 16.3HH and weighs in at 750Kg so he takes quite a bit of looking after.
