Who are Lethenty Cabinetmakers?

The furniture workshops at Lethenty Mill were originally set up in 1980 by Allan Fyfe, trading as Lethenty Mill Furniture. Initially producing simple but solid furniture in local pine, the company evolved, eventually specializing in custom built kitchens made with local hardwoods. Over the years the company expanded and its reputation grew. By the turn of the 21st century Lethenty Mill Furniture had firmly established itself as the premier producer of bespoke kitchens in the North East of Scotland. For Allan Fyfe however, a lifelong interest in the vernacular furniture of the area prompted a change of direction. In 2003 he made the decision to wind up the workshops at Lethenty Mill in order to concentrate on teaching traditional furniture making skills and developing a series of self build furniture kits based on traditional Scottish designs. More information about this can be found on www.wood-shop.co.uk and on www.lethenty-mill.com.

It is at this point, at the end of 2003, that Lethenty Cabinetmakers was born. Graeme Winram, the workshop manager at the time, agreed to lease the workshop and showroom on a long term basis and, with three other members of staff, production was continued. Since then, we have grown steadily and now employ five people.
